G DATA hosts the Software Craftmanship Meetings of Softwerkskammer Ruhrgebiet

G DATA hosts the Software Craftmanship Meetings of Softwerkskammer Ruhrgebiet Social Network

What the Software Craftmanship movement stands for

Founded in 2011, the Software Craftmanship movement sees itself as a community of developers who see their work as a trade craft. It wants to support and connect developers and offer them those tricks and techniques that are the mark of a good developer. The Software Craftmanship movement aims to create a community that is learning and exchanging experiences in order to create flexible and easily adaptable software with highest quality standards and which fits the customer's needs. Their intent is formulated in the Software Craftmanship Manifesto:

As aspiring Software Craftsmen we are raising the bar of professional software development by practicing it and helping others learn the craft. Through this work we have come to value:
  • Not only working software, but also well-crafted software
  • Not only responding to change, but also steadily adding value
  • Not only individuals and interactions, but also a community of professionals
  • Not only customer collaboration, but also productive partnerships

That is, in pursuit of the items on the left we have found the items on the right to be indispensable.

Or as Softwerkskammer puts it:

In brief: We want to create the right software, and we want to create it in the right way.

What happens at their meetings

The Softwerkskammer is organized in regional chapters across the country. Members meet once every month to discuss a certain topic in depth. In addition to this, each chapter organizes lean coffees as well as other events are taking place.

Lean Coffee

Lean coffees are structured, but initially agenda-less meetings. All discussion topics are fixed in a democratic way. Despite its name, non-coffee drinkers are of course welcome at lean coffees. There are also lean barbecues, lean teas and other food and drink-related lean events. All of them are based on the same principle.

G DATA supports the movement

G DATA is proud to support the notion of "doing the right things, doing things right" and is providing a platform for those interested in polishing their craft and helping the software community as a whole to evolve. In fact, the first meetings took place already: Most fittingly, we had a Lean Coffee session in our new Trojan Horse Café and a Coding Dojo for practicing Test-Driven Development in one of our bigger Meeting Rooms.

We invite everybody who is interested in joining fellow software craftsmen in their endeavor to keep improving steadily! In addition to Lean Coffees or Coding Dojos, there will also be talks and workshops. Keep an eye out for the next events on Meetup or the Softwerkskammer homepage. An event will be held at G DATA campus each month, another one in Dortmund.
